Today Tim and I went to the 50's Fair, at Rose Seidler House in Wahroonga. Obviously, today was more about dressing up than it was about experimenting - so don't expect that from me!
I had chewed off my red lipstick by the time this photo was taken, which was a shame - it really made the look! And, the cardigan was rather more a necessity than a choice - when I bought the dress on this morning, one of the seams had come undone from underarm to waist. The car, sadly, is very much not mine.

Sunglasses - Ebay
Pearls - self made from Lincraft beads
Cardigan - Portmans
Dress - Op Shop
Stockings - Leona Edmiston
Shoes - Op Shop
Gloves - Ebay
Bag - Ebay (Vintage)
It was the gloves, dress and bag that I really felt were right for the occasion, so here's a close-up;

Tim was also dressed for the occasion, though I am sure he's worn this outfit before to University;

Sunglasses - Op Shop
Shirt - Ralph Lauren via Op Shop
Tie - Op Shop
Cardigan - Antiques Store (definitely vintage 50's!)
Jeans - Cheap Monday
Shoes - Retrospec'd Vintage Clothing

The fair was ridiculously crowded, which rather ruined the experience. There was lots of great stalls, which I couldn't really look at because I was being pushed and shoved from all sides. I couldn't get many pictures either. I hope they choose a bigger venue next year.
A highlight for me was seeing Miss June Dally Watkins judge the fashion parade. I just adore her, she looked so very proper and was so charming today. Here's a rather blurry picture;

I did make one small purchase;

It is quite possibly the cutest apron ever! And at $5, I could not resist. I am absolutely overwhelmed by the desire to bake in it.
So, despite the crowds, I'm glad I went. It was really very lovely seeing so many people dress up and celebrate a bygone era. Are any of you 50's fans?

You look adorable! And so does your boyfriend. Everytime i wear gloves with short sleeve dresses or tops, drunken idiots always seem to make Michael Jackson references. Grrr.
Slightly off topic, but the MC's dress looks just a tad bit too small! I also want the red car.
xx
Oh Rachael, you look sensational! It's a shame about the crowds though, I guess there's been a resurgence in 50s style which would have no doubt, effected the crowd numbers.
I do love emphasis on the female silhouette in 1950s fashions as well as the beauty and hair styles of the day. And you can't go past some old rock'n'roll!
You look gorgeous, I love your outfit. The pattern on the dress is so pretty!
You look lovely... and those gloves and fantastic.
But i really love the Grandpa Cardi ....
I always used to go to the 50s fair! I was going to go today but I am sick :( Always a bit of fun! Lots of characters there...
Ohhhh this outfit is gorgeous! I can imagine the red lippy with it as well!
I think it is so cute that your boyfriend joined in and dressed up for the occasion with you!
oh...and how quaint is that car! :o *gasps*
You look very sweet and demure in your gloves, and how cute is that car!
awww I want to go to a 50's fair! As you well know 50's fashions and I are in a committed and loving relationship ;)
:O I wish I knew about this, I love the 50s! I'd wear 50s style every day if I could get away with it.
You both look awesome <3
You look so cute, Rachael!
I am definitely a 50s fan- though perhaps not so much the "Honey, I'm home!" or domestic housewife part. A woman should not be afraid to look good outside the kitchen!
Love the outfit! And the house too!
you and your boyfriend look awesome. i bought a $5 apron recently too (not as cute as yours though) and even though i don't bake, it makes me REALLY want to. haha.
You both look amazing, not to mention that car!
I quite like the 50's, but I guess I'm more into the 60's and the 70's because of all the psychedelic and colourful patterns etc. On the other hand, at times I'm truly inspired by the 20's, too. :)
You're perfect !^^
Oh I want to go a a 50's fair!! How fun! Your look incredibly cute I must say. That dress is just *sighs*, well you know perfect. And it looks fantastic with the black sweater over it as well. The whole ensemble is lovely. As is your hubby!! How fashionable you too are! And I have to say the 50's style really, really suites you. Oh so flattering.
I love the the dress. The colors are wonderful and it looks great with the black cardigan. The 50s fair sounds like fun.
Oh, you look lovely! The shoes especially are so cute. A 50s fair sounds fun. I'd love a 40s one, too!
I am a 50s fan! My body type suits the 50s really well. I am also a little bit enamoured (in appearance not principle) with the domesticity of the 50s.
You look just wunnderful, as does Tim. Stovepipe jeans... tough to carry off but he does it well!
I wish I had known about this fair :( I would have loved to go... instead I did a lot of vintage and market shopping which was quite fun as well.
I cannot tell you how insanely jealous I am!!! I so badly wanted to go, but juggling birthday and children commitments would have meant an exceedingly early flight and would have left me rather ragged for the day. I will be doing much forward planning to ensure I make it to the next one.
And how wonderful is Miss Dally Watkins? Have you read her book? It is a most interesting story, if somewhat dryly told.
nice outfit!! i was gonna go to the 50s fair my friend mentioned it to me a couple of times hehhee
Oh my gosh, you just look divine! The classic 50's sweater girl look really suits you and I adore all your details...the pearls, gloves, frame bag.
And your apron! I'm glad to know I'm not the only daggy one who gets excited about aprons :) I have one with ruffles and a black and white eiffel tower print...sigh :)
I wish I knew about it, it would be so brilliant to go!
I really love your outfit and especially the gloves and glasses.
I don't think June really appreciates how camp she really she's become.
can i please join the group? i wish im an actress simply so that i could star in the 50s movies and wear the gorgeous clothes! haha you look stunning in that outfit, the skirt really made the look. you two look so good together :)
