Things I have acquired recently...

I wanted to share some of the lovely things which have come into my possession in the past month or so.

Firstly, grey vintage brogues;

This is the picture from the listing on Etsy - I'm afraid I didn't have them with me when I was taking pictures tonight. They shade of grey is a little more "mellow" in real life - difficult to describe, but noticeable. They're fabulous - they have a perfect low heel for comfortable walking and go with most of my clothes. The first day I wore them, the sole came apart from the shoe on one of them (which often happens with vintage shoes) - while I was at work! All of my footwear disasters seem to happen at work, it's very embarrassing. Anyway, some araldite and strong glue fixed them nicely.

And, tights;

I have been wanting pastel tights for a while, and when I found these on a sock and stocking stall at Parramatta, I was delighted! I know the royal blue and green ones aren't exactly pastel, but they were too exciting to pass up on.

Sunglasses and a headband;

The plaid headband was $1.50 (brand new at an op shop) and is so fabulously reminiscent of Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl. I actually bought about 8 of them (they had loads!), the excess to be sold on the market stall Tim and I are going to have when the weather is more reliable. The sunglasses were intended to be in the style of Jackie Onassis, but my dad told me I looked like Corey Worthington in them, and a friend said I looked most like an alien Fly, so they might make it to the market stall as well! (I have since ordered a more demure pair of round sunglasses).

And lastly, another pair of new shoes;

These are actually new, and are to replace my slowly disintegrating black mary janes
as my "default" shoes. The picture is black and white because I couldn't get the colour balance right - and they are black shoes! It's still not a very good picture of them, I'm afraid. It seemed almost fate that I found them - I mentioned to Tim I wanted to look in lots of shoe stores to find every day shoes, and I motioned and said "Like that one..." I looked over at the store I had pointed to, and these caught my eye, and warranted closer inspection. They turned out to be exactly like the dream WWII chorus dancer style shoes that I have desired ever since I saw Mrs Henderson Presents, and were well within my budget. Hurrah!

I intend to work out how to make pictures of things like this pretty, like the lovely blogger at It's Vintage, Darling does, so expect the next lot (because I rather shamefully have still more new things) to look rather better.

I love those black shoes with the ribbons - perfectly you Rachael, or should I say, Corey?!

I think lots of soft scandinavian natural light and a really good DSLR are the key to those pretty, pretty still life arrangements.

Love those grey shoes!!! I wish I could come across some gorgeous vintage shoes but curse the big feet my mother gave me...

Great blog - am an avid reader, you've got such great, original personal style.

great new additions, i must say. i share the problem of resembling alien-flies when wearing shades so i tend to end up ignoring the tempting idea to even find a set that would fit my head. and i like your photos the way they are, they're more personal and individual like this.

Those grey shoes are lovely, but it's the black ones with the bows that I'm head-over-heels in love with! They really look like dancing shoes.

Oh wow I love those tights. I simply must go searching high and low for blue tights I can't stand being without them for much longer!

Your shoes are such fantastic buys as well and I think your photos are lovely!

I hope the market stall sells more than your unwanted stuff! Also, I think you should mention the names of the op shops you buy from.

Oh I LOVE Mrs Henderson Presents! Ever since I saw it I have wanted a miniature short-haired daschund desperately.

You have such great taste!

Those things are pretty. I was wondering where do you have your stall and what op shops do you go to? Because I live in Sydney too and I don't know that many except the ones in Newtown.

I love those dancing shoes!!! The Mrs Hendersons photo reminds me of when my tap class did 42nd street - I had a costume similar to the girl in the polka dotted black skirt, except mine was red, had suspenders and was even shorter than that...thank god for red netball knickers is all I can say!

francesca - the market stall will be primarily selling china and pottery my boyfriend and I have found in op shops ridiculously underpriced, but the clothing portion will be mostly things I've found in op shops that I desperately wish fit me, and don't. Certainly not just unwanted things! Also, I'll say this again when I finally publish my article about op shopping, but I go to a really wide range of op shops, and find they don't yield good items in any kind of pattern - I can't be responsible for what happens to be there on the day.

jane - We haven't had th stall yet, but are thinking of Rozelle Markets when we do (when it's warmer!). I wouldn't recommend the op shops in Newtown, just because they're so "picked over" that they don't often have good finds - though occasionally I (or people I know) have found good ones. I'm going to do an article on op shopping really soon, so I hope that will help.
